Of all players, Niclas Füllkrug – that was the outcry among many BVB fans after the final whistle. The striker gifted Werder Bremen the equalizer against Borussia Dortmund in stoppage time, dealing BVB their first Bundesliga setback after the long international break.
That it was Füllkrug of all people who struck in stoppage time fits the drama of this match. Werder fought their way back, Dortmund wobbled – in the end, it was enough for Bremen at least to take a point. A goal so late that one must speak of a shock for Borussia.
What this point means for Werder and BVB
For you as a football fan, after weeks of international matches every point counts in the battle for table positions. That BVB gave way in the final minutes at Werder of all places hurts – Bremen, on the other hand, takes a point that likely feels like a small success for the team.
