Cyberpunk 2077 Becomes Live-Action Film: Paramount Brings Transformers Producer Aboard

TVS News AI, editorially supervised, presents Cyberpunk 2077 Becomes Live-Action Film: Paramount Brings Transformers Producer Aboard.

Paramount Pictures is working on a live-action film based on Cyberpunk 2077. What that means for you: the open-world hit from Polish studio CD Projekt Red is set to become a real movie — featuring the locations, characters, and conflicts of the game world, rather than more patches and DLCs.

Who's Behind the Project?

On board is Lorenzo di Bonaventura as producer — the man who has overseen the Transformers franchise for years and was also pulling the strings behind the scenes for G.I. Joe. On the other side sits CD Projekt Red not just as licensor, but also as co-producer: the Warsaw-based studio holds the rights to the brand and is bringing the world of Night City to the starting line itself.

What's Officially Known So Far

So far there are no details on director, cast, script, or release date — neither from Paramount nor the studio. What the matching reports from Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, IGN, Polygon, and Kotaku confirm: it will be a live-action adaptation, not an animated film, and it is set in the universe of the game series. The news first surfaced via Deadline.

Why the Timing Is Hardly a Surprise

The movie joins a wave of video game adaptations that has noticeably picked up steam with the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and A Minecraft Movie. For Paramount, it's an attempt to tap into exactly that trend — and for CD Projekt Red, a chance to keep expanding the world of Night City beyond the screen, while the studio is simultaneously working on Project Orion (Cyberpunk 2), as multiple trade outlets report.

Status: Report will be updated as soon as further details on cast, crew, or release date become available.
