Ed Sheeran has drawn a clear line: following Macklemore's Palestine statements on stage, the rapper has been dropped as the support act for the "Loop Tour." Eight concerts at which the US rapper was still set to play the opener slot are now cancelled.
Wondering what this actually means for you — are shows being called off, do tickets lose their value, or will Ed Sheeran simply play longer? Here's the rundown on everything known so far about the firing.
The most intriguing bit is the final line in the report: even though Macklemore has lost his tour gig, he apparently seems at peace with the outcome.
What's known so far about the "Loop Tour"
Ed Sheeran is on the road with his "Loop Tour," and Macklemore had been booked as the support act for the remaining dates. According to Focus Stars, the two would have shared the stage at eight more shows — those performances have now been scrapped with no replacement.
Palestine statements as the trigger for the firing
Exactly what Macklemore said on stage is reported by Focus Stars as "Palestine statements." Ed Sheeran responded by pulling the rapper from the support slot. What drove the decision behind the scenes — whether it was coordinated with the promoter or came from a direct conversation with Sheeran — is not clear from the source.
Macklemore seems satisfied
That Macklemore apparently doesn't regret the split is arguably the most striking part of the report.
… and still satisfied.
It suggests that Macklemore stands behind his comments — even if it cost him the prestigious tour slot with one of the biggest pop stars on the planet.
What we still don't know
What Ed Sheeran or his management officially say about the split, what happens to tickets for the remaining dates, and whether Macklemore will be booked as a support act again in the future — none of that is clear from the available source.
