Amazon has officially ordered a drama series about the sensational Karen Read murder case. This is reported by Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, and Variety. In the as-yet-untitled, one-hour series, Elizabeth Banks takes on the title role and also serves as executive producer.
The podcast "Karen" by Law&Crime and Audible Originals, which covers the case, serves as the source material. Karen Read was at the center of a high-profile murder trial: prosecutors accused her of killing her then-boyfriend, a Boston police officer. The case attracted nationwide attention for months and made headlines across the US.
Justin Noble takes on the roles of writer, showrunner, and executive producer. Elizabeth Banks is known from films like "Cocaine Bear" and the "Pitch Perfect" franchise. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the series is "unauthorized" — meaning it was created without the direct involvement or consent of the real Karen Read. When filming will begin and when the series will air on Prime Video is not yet known.
