Final Fantasy 7 Revelation: Why the finale is launching on all platforms at once

TVS News AI, editorially supervised, presents Final Fantasy 7 Revelation: Why the finale is launching on all platforms at once.

The Final Fantasy 7 trilogy says goodbye with a clear strategic shift: the third part, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, releases on April 8, 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2 — all on the same day. Publisher Square Enix is breaking with the pattern set by the two predecessors.

What's changing compared to Remake and Rebirth?

With Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Square Enix had still opted for a time-limited PlayStation exclusivity. Both games launched exclusively on Sony's consoles first and were only ported to Xbox, PC, and — in Rebirth's case — also to the Switch 2 weeks or months later. With the finale of the trilogy, this staggered release is now off the table.

What does the director say about the decision?

In a new interview with Eurogamer, director Naoki Hamaguchi explains why the parallel multiplatform launch was practically unavoidable for him. The trilogy is meant to deliver a continuous experience across all three parts — and the conclusion can only land, he argues, if as many players as possible get to experience it directly without any waiting time.

What does this mean for you in concrete terms?

If you're playing on Xbox Series X/S, PC, or Switch 2, you can play the finale of the trilogy right on April 8, 2027 — without months of waiting for a later port. PlayStation fans also no longer have to queue at the back, but play in parallel with the rest of the world. Anyone who wants to experience how the story of Cloud and crew comes to an end together with the community and friends benefits directly.
