Want a black PlayStation 5? Sony has actually announced a Midnight Black variant – but only for Japan first. According to Eurogamer, the new model will launch there as early as next month. The good news: there's hope for the rest of the world.
According to Eurogamer, the new color variant is the disc-less version of the console. The current report does not mention a price or details on a possible availability outside Japan.
What's confirmed so far
The announcement applies exclusively to the Japanese market. Sony has officially unveiled the new PS5 in "Midnight Black"; no other markets are mentioned in the current coverage. Exactly what the new variant looks like and how it differs from the standard white PS5 is also not clear from the available snippet.
Why there's hope
Already the title of Eurogamer's report ("there's still hope for the rest of the world") reads as if an expansion to Europe and other regions is at least not ruled out. More cannot be gleaned from the current report – so far, only the Japan release next month is confirmed.
What this means for you
If you live outside Japan and are hoping for an official Midnight Black PS5, you'll have to be patient for now. As soon as Sony announces a release date for Europe or other markets, you'll find the info here.
