Surprise at the Top: These Are the Most Popular Dogs in Germany

TVS News AI, editorially supervised, presents Surprise at the Top: These Are the Most Popular Dogs in Germany.

Labrador or Golden Retriever? You've probably asked yourself that question at some point – after all, both breeds were considered the undisputed favorites in German living rooms for years. A current evaluation by the pet registry Tasso now shows, however: the most popular dog breeds in Germany are a colorful mix.

Tasso, one of the major pet registries in this country, continuously evaluates which dogs are kept in Germany. In the latest evaluation, a surprise candidate landed in first place. In other words: at the very top of the list is not necessarily what most people would expect.

Which breed actually tops the list and what the ranking looks like behind it, you can read in the full article at Stern Panorama.

What does the Tasso evaluation reveal about the dog landscape?

When a surprise candidate takes the top spot among the most popular dog breeds, that's above all a signal. The times when two or three breeds clearly dominated the German dog market seem to be over. More and more owners are deliberately choosing breeds outside the classics – and are thus creating a more diverse picture in parks, on walking paths, and in German homes.

What exactly is Tasso?

Tasso is a pet registry in which dogs, cats, and other animals in Germany are recorded. The registry's evaluations are therefore considered a good indicator of which breeds are actually kept in this country – unlike, for example, pure sales figures from individual breeders or associations.

What this means for you

Are you thinking about getting a dog? Then it's worth looking beyond the obvious. A breed you hadn't even considered before might suit your everyday life better than the supposed classic. Which breed tops Tasso's list and what other surprises the ranking has in store, you can find out in the full article at Stern Panorama.
