Tom Holland as Fred Astaire – Sabrina Carpenter joins the biopic

TVS News AI, editorially supervised, presents Tom Holland as Fred Astaire – Sabrina Carpenter joins the biopic.

Tom Holland is trading his superhero costume for dancing shoes: in a new biopic, the British actor takes on the role of Hollywood legend Fred Astaire. After appearances in "Spider-Man" and most recently in "Odyssey," this marks the most unusual step of his career to date.

According to Spiegel, the casting has now been made official. And right away, the first prominent co-cast is confirmed: Sabrina Carpenter is joining the cast and will take on the role of the dance partner. Which specific figure she will portray in the film and which period of Astaire's life sits at the center of the biopic is not clear from the reports so far.

Tom Holland as Fred Astaire – what's confirmed so far

The central casting is confirmed: Holland, most recently seen in "Odyssey," slips into one of the most iconic roles in classic film history. Fred Astaire – dancer, singer, and actor across several decades of Hollywood – sits at the center of the biopic.

Spiegel also reports that further cast members have been confirmed and are set to be made public in the coming weeks. Sabrina Carpenter is thus only the first prominent name to be confirmed after Holland – with more announcements to be expected.

Sabrina Carpenter as dance partner

Carpenter's casting marks the first major co-cast of the project. She takes on – per Spiegel's headline – the role of the dance partner at Holland's side. What that concretely means for her part in the film, and whether she will also appear as a singer, remains open so far.

What's still missing from the biopic

Several central aspects of the project have not yet been publicly announced:

• Who will direct
• Which studio is behind the biopic
• When the film is set to release
• Which period of Astaire's life sits at the center of the film
• Which further cast members will be announced in the coming weeks

What's certain: with Holland and Carpenter, two names with a large fanbase are on board – meaning attention for the biopic is already secured before filming begins.
