ZDF Confirms 'Die Bergretter' Departure After 17 Years

TVS News AI, editorially supervised, presents ZDF Confirms 'Die Bergretter' Departure After 17 Years.

Seventeen years on the show – and now it's over: ZDF confirms the departure of an actor from "Die Bergretter". The broadcaster deliberately stages the farewell as its own drama within the series.

Who is leaving – and since when?

The actor in question has been with the series since its early days, as Bunte reports, citing ZDF. Over roughly 17 years, he has thus been part of the regular ensemble around team leader Markus Kofler. Whether he plays a main or supporting role and how the departure is narratively packaged in the script, the broadcaster has so far kept under wraps.

"Bruchstelle" bundles the mission and the farewell into one episode

The framework for the departure is provided by the episode titled "Bruchstelle". In this episode, the team around Markus Kofler is hit not only by a dangerous mission, but at the same time by sad news. Both plotlines – the alpine emergency scenario and the personal farewell – reportedly converge in the same episode. ZDF thus turns the series exit itself into a dramatic event, rather than letting it quietly unfold in the background.

What this means for fans of the series

Anyone who regularly tunes in to "Die Bergretter" should not miss "Bruchstelle" – in this episode, an action-packed mountain rescue operation coincides with the emotional moment of the farewell. Anyone who wants to know exactly who is leaving, how the character is bid farewell from the series, and how the remaining team members react will have to wait for the broadcast or keep an eye on the official preview in the ZDF program.
