Googlebooks unveiled: Google introduces a new laptop category – with a focus on Android smartphones.

Google is introducing the Googlebooks as a new laptop category. According to the company, the devices center on seamless integration with Android smartphones.

With this, Google is deliberately positioning the notebooks as a standalone class – neither a classic ChromeBook nor an Android tablet with an attached keyboard. The goal: a continuous experience between phone and laptop, in which content and notifications flow between the devices.

What's known so far

The announcement so far is tight-lipped on technical details. Information about the processor, price, availability, or exact specifications such as screen size or ports did not emerge from the initial announcement.

What this means for you

If you already use an Android smartphone, the new category targets you directly: a laptop that sees itself as an extension of the phone. How deep the integration actually goes will need to be shown by initial tests and a closer look at the specs.
